"Sunlamps and sunbeds expose the body to ultra violet light that not only induces a tan but also induces production of vitamin D in the skin. A five-to-10 minute exposure on a sunbed can produce more than 10,000 IUs on vitamin D which is a useful quantity providing enough for a few days."
"Cancer Research UK and others against use of sunbeds has up to now been one sided, considering the possible risk of skin cancer without considering the benefit obtained from sunbeds is a cosmetic one when in fact there are considerable benefits from the vitamin D produced, including a feeling of well-being. Furthermore some studies have been unable to find any risk of melanoma from use of sunbads."
